Pinewood Derby

My son competed in the Pinewood Derby for Pack 104 last night. His car made it to the 5th round. (one round farther then last year). In the double elimination tourney his car lost to the eventual 5th place winner then lost to the eventual 4th place winner, ending his chances for reaching the district tournament. (The top 5 cars advance to compete in the district tournament).
This event is one of the coolest events that the Cub scouts do all year. The opportunity to work with my son, helping him build the car, paint it and get it set just right is half the fun. The competition and the chance to race the other kids from his pack is pretty cool too.
We had a great time racing and even though we didn't have the best car in the tournament we were proud of the car we built together.
Maybe next year we can go even further - if only we can figure out the allusive secrets to Pinewood Derby speed!
